How to Check if a Photo Is AI-Generated
- Get the best copy you can. Save the original image rather than screenshotting it. Originals keep more detail, and some carry provenance data (Content Credentials) that screenshots strip out.

7 Signs a Photo Might Be AI-Generated
Generators like Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, and Flux have gotten very good, but they still slip in predictable places. Look closely at:
- Text: signs, labels, and logos with letters that melt, repeat, or spell nothing.
- Hands and teeth: extra or fused fingers, nails that blend into skin, teeth that run together.
- Symmetry that shouldn't match: earrings, glasses arms, and collar points that differ from side to side in impossible ways.
- Backgrounds: railings, windows, and tiles that bend, merge, or stop mid-line; crowds of faces that smear.
- Skin and hair: skin that's glossy and poreless, hair that dissolves into the background.
- Light and shadow: shadows pointing different ways, reflections that don't match the scene.
- Too perfect: a studio-grade shot of a "candid" moment, with flawless composition and no noise.
None of these is proof on its own, and the newest models avoid many of them. That's why a detector that scores the whole image is a useful second opinion.
What Your Result Means
- Likely Human: low AI signal. Nothing in the image looks machine-made.
- Unclear: mixed signals, common with heavily edited photos and graphics. Worth a closer look.
- Likely AI: strong signs of an image generator.
- Inconclusive: the file couldn't be read. Try a different copy of the image.
